Traveling by plane
Frankfurt (FRA):
Distance: 250km
By car : 2,5 hours
By train : 2-2,5 hours
During daytime, there are up to 4 trains per hour connecting Frankfurt and Bochum. Some of them go directly, others require to change train in Cologne. The railway station is directly inside the airport. (“Fernverkehr”). You can book tickets in this station, on the internet (www.bahn.de) and directly on the trains (additional fee).
For a flight passenger, you can book a Rail&Fly ticket together with your flight ticket. This ticket is valid throughout Germany on the day of your flight and is less cost.
Düsseldorf (DUS):
Distance: 45km
By car : 30 min hours
By train : 30 - 45 min hours
There are up to five trains per hour from Düsseldorf to Bochum . Most of them are direct connections. You can reach a station from Düsseldorf Airport via skytrain. You can book tickets in this station, on the internet (www.bahn.de) and for some connections directly on the trains. You can book a Rail&Fly ticket together with your flight ticket. This ticket is valid throughout Germany on the day of your flight.
Cologne (CGN):
Distance: 90km
By car : 1 hour
By train : 90 min
During daytime, there are up to three trains per hour from Cologne . Most of them do not
go directly, but via Cologne main station. You can book tickets in this station, on the internet (www.bahn.de) and for some connections directly on the trains. You can book a Rail&Fly ticket together with your flight ticket. This ticket is valid throughout Germany on the day of your flight.
Dortmund (DTM):
Distance: 36 km
By car : 45 min
By train : 45 min
During daytime, there are a lot of direct trains per hour from Dortmund to Bochum. You can book tickets in this station and on the internet (www.bahn.de).
Weeze (very small airport):
Distance: 100 km
By car : 85 min
By train : no access
This Airport is increasingly used by low-cost carriers. Despite of its name “Düsseldorf-Weeze” it has no connection to Düsseldorf airport. We recommend to have a reservation for a rental car in advance.
Arriving by train
Please leave the train at 'Bochum Hauptbahnhof'. Book your train ticket to Bochum main station. You can book tickets in this station, on the internet and for some connections directly on the trains.
Arrival: There is a taxi stand in front of the station. The Taxi takes about 5 min to smart optics and will cost about 10€.

Arriving by car
Our company in Bochum, Sinterstrasse 8a, can be reached almost directly leaving Autobahn A40.
The way to A40
1. Coming from NORTH take A1 to direction “Köln”. Then take A43 to direction “Bochum” and then A40 to direction “Essen”.
2. Coming from WEST, take A40 to direction “Bochum”
3. Coming from EAST, take A44 to “Dortmund”. A44 will become A40 (to direction “Essen”).
4. Coming from SOUTH, take A1 to direction “Bremen”. Then take A45 to direction “Kassel , Gießen”, then take A40 to “Essen , Bochum”
From A40 to Sinterstrasse 8a:
a) Leave A40 at the exit number 32, “Bochum Stahlhausen”
b) Coming from Dortmund (from NORTH, EAST or SOUTH) turn left at the traffic light. You will cross the Autobahn.
Coming from Essen (from WEST) leave the Autobahn to the right. There will be one traffic light on the way.
c) You will drive through an underpass. At the next traffic light (about 50m after the underpass) turn right. You will drive a 2-lane route.
d) Leave this 2-lane route at the first exit (“Am Umweltpark”) and get to a traffic circle.
e) Take the first exit (“Rombacher Hütte”) of the traffic circle.
f) After another traffic light you will drive through another underpass.
g) Turn right at the crossroads directly (15m) after the underpass.
h) You are now driving on “Sinterstraße”, the company building of smart optics is located on the right side.
